Solution:

This is a rather common TYPO3 beginner problem. To solve the problem try the following steps:

  1. Click on "Template"
  2. Select "Click here to edit whole template record"
  3. Verify that under "include Static" content (default) or CSS Styled Content (css_styled_content) is selected

content (default) is needed by TYPO3 for the content rendering.

For newer TYPO3 versions CSS Styled Content (css_styled_content) is needed.

I really like the backend of Typo3 and LDAP was easy and working great but I have checked what is posted here and I still get a 404 page not found. And when I click on "Web > View" and have the site root selected I get a message that says "No pages found at root level".
